Red e App has published a new infographic which claims some very staggering statistics concerning lost productivity due to social media distractions in the workplace. Among the findings of their new report, workers are interrupted approximately once every 10.5 minutes, and it takes an average of 23 minutes to return to an assigned task. The impact of these interruptions is supposedly staggering — costing the American economy almost $650 billion dollars a year.

I’m not sure we can be confident of the interuptions figure. If it is true an employee working an eight hour shift would only be getting about 3.5 hours of work done per day. I’m thinking that would be noticed in workplaces nationwide. The United States has some of the most productive workers in the world and I’ve not seen any reports of a massive decrease in productivity.

Anyhow, here is the new report via infographic.
