Nonprofit HR’s Blog

The 2012 NHRC Chat is here!

For newbies, NHRC Chat is a monthly Twitter chat where we discuss topics that will be presented at the upcoming 2012 Nonprofit Human Resources Conference. There are different speakers and topics involved every month. As our schedule fills, we will post chats, presenters and topics on the NHRC blog.

This month, NHRC Chat will be discussing The Other F-word. This October, Richard Dedor, is presenting an afternoon session on taking control of your life and career by incorporating the necessary “focus” on the appropriate things. He’ll be tweeting about the same topic on Wednesday, July 18 at 8:00 pm EST.

So let’s chat about what needs to be done for success in your career and satisfaction in your personal life through better FOCUS. To facilitate this discussion, we will be joined by the session’s presenter @RichardDedor.

‘The Time is Now’ was the campaign slogan during Richard Dedor’s run for mayor of Mason City in 2002. This message of seeing each moment as an opportunity for change was the core of his campaign and remains central to everything he does in life. Always a believer in taking advantage of the moment, Richard sees each moment as an opportunity to challenge and live richly.

Richard is involved in many activities outside his consulting practice. He participates in The Trevor Project, Habitat for Humanity, Toastmasters, and formerly worked full-time for the US Tennis Association. He has spent the last ten years volunteering for community groups, working in politics and the nonprofit sector, and currently spend his time consulting companies on their social media tactics and execution.

Richard is a four-time CIML All-Academic Athlete and an academic letter-winner. Additionally, he was an all-state speaker and the recipient of the Iowa Bar Association’s American Citizenship Medal in 2002. Richard holds a degree in public relations and recently finished his first book, Anything is Possible.

Here are the questions we will ask during the chat. The first question will be asked at 8:10 pm and each successive question will post on the 10?s.

  • Q1. How do you best manage your time?
  • Q2. In what ways can you share compassion at work and in life?
  • Q3. Where can you spend time growing your skills?
  • Q4. How does failure impact you?
  • Q5. What is stopping you from going after your passion?

Discussion is encouraged around the topic even if a specific item isn’t asked or addressed.

Chat with us on Twitter, hashtag #NHRCCHAT on Wednesday, July 18 at 8:00 pm EST.
