WTOP: 5 ways nonprofits can…
The Climate Advocacy Lab, incubated at the Skoll Global Threats Fund, helps climate and clean energy advocates run the most effective public engagement campaigns possible. Launched in 2015, “The Lab” has quickly grown to be a network of 1,700+ advocates, social scientists, data experts and funders developing and sharing best practices for what works–and what doesn’t–for engaging and mobilizing Americans on climate and clean energy. In addition to running workshops and trainings for the community, the Lab also facilitates and gives grants to support field research aimed at testing how best to engage people on these issues. They are a growing organization with headquarters based in San Francisco, CA.
Skoll Global Threats Fund has exclusively retained Nonprofit HR to assist in its recruitment efforts for a collaborative, altruistic Community Coordinator for its Climate Advocacy Lab. The Community Coordinator will strengthen connections with and between new and existing Lab members, help build out an online learning curriculum, solicit and incorporate feedback to improve Lab systems, and assist in running in-person workshops and trainings to share best practices for climate engagement.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s or advanced degree and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the organizing and/or advocacy space with demonstrated experience working with the climate or clean energy communities. Degree requirement may be substituted with equal, relevant work experience. It is essential that candidates have a strong belief in the power of collaborative initiatives and a deep passion for and commitment to social and environmental justice, as well as sophisticated understanding of racial equity and structural racism and the centrality of this analysis to the work that the Climate Advocacy Lab does. Strong, existing relationships with social and environmental justice communities would be a plus for this role.
Candidates must possess outstanding interpersonal skills, public speaking skills, one-on-one communication skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and the willingness to embrace new and innovative ways of doing things. Candidates should have demonstrated experience with editing/proofreading, the ability to pay close attention to detail and flexibility and adaptability to handle the priorities of an evolving position.
Experience in advocacy on issues of race, environmental justice, systemic inequalities and their intersections, experience with adult education and/or curriculum development, experience with testing, experimentation, social science research related to climate change and/or data analytics and experience with event planning would be preferred.
Candidates must have the ability to travel up to 20% of the time within the United States with overnight stays and the ability to work independently and on the road as the position dictates. Candidates must possess the ability and willingness to work long hours occasionally and as project needs dictate.
For immediate consideration, interested candidates should submit their resumes to [email protected] with “Climate Advocacy Lab Community Coordinator” as the subject line. Electronic submissions are highly preferred. The Climate Advocacy Lab is an equal opportunity employer. People of color, people with disabilities, women, and LGBTQ candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Skoll Global Threats Fund is actively seeking a diversity of experience and perspectives among the team and is committed to building an inclusive workplace culture where all individuals can thrive.
